This Page is to help you be successful and make your hunt as productive as possible while you are here at Archery-outfitters. If you read this and take it to heart it will greatly benefit us both! We are not saying our way of hunting is better, or your way is better; but this is what you need to do to kill a deer here. If you can do it, you will get the opportunity! The average hunter we get here has probably been bow hunting for 30 years, with that being said, if you do not hunt whitetails over feed in remote mountians were the deer are WILD, You need to throw everything you are use to out the window. While you may think that hunting them over feed is going to be easy, it is not. The advantage to hunting over feed is that you KNOW that the deer are going to be there, a good thing, but the deer know you are going to be there too, so you need to take up a new way of thinking while you are here, hunting this way.
I can guarantee you will get shooting at some amazing deer. It's not easy but a necessity to OUR success. And every year you come back it gets easier and easier. You start to see and understand the deer and whats going on with them. I'm going to try to give you a year or 2 head start here.
The deer are wanting to come in but the bucks will stand off the bait and listen for 30 to 40 minutes every time before they commit to come in. Some times you will see them do this, but most of the time you will not. They always do this, and it only takes one very small noise from you that they don't like and they will just leave. luckily there are multiple bucks on the stands, up to 10+, so you might get more than ONE CHANCE. But the one you blow could be a buck of a lifetime, literally.
So all you have to do in order to kill the deer is be quite, and we mean 100% quite, and you'll get to shoot at a great deer. But up here in the mountains, it is quite, dead quite, no wind, no noise, this is the hard part. It is a WITH OUT A DOUBT THE MOST IMPORTANT thing iwe can tell you or show you about being successful in your experience here. The wind, we will take care of that, the deer seeing you, we will take care of that, the deer being there, we will take care of that, hearing you, that is all in your hands you will have good quality quite stands.
Here comes the 2nd part. Don't take any thing to the tree with you!! You're only there for 4 to 6 hours so eat first and drink some water if needed. There is no possible way you will be able to do either with out the deer hearing you. Phone in your pocket & off. All your items will be safe in the truck in your back pack/fanny pack. We won't be far away. Keep all the temptations away.Sit up there and enjoy watching the deer, they are your best source of information on whats going on around you. You want to keep some in as much as possible.
DO NOT try to draw on them to see if you can, it's the big buck behind you standing there that I am worried about not the deer in front of you! Why risk it? If you hear them coming don't look behind you, you can't shoot there anyway. Just wait, you should not move at all untill you see the deer you are going to shoot, then watch him as you CAREFULLY get ready to shoot him.
We hunt in the timber where it is easy for the deer to get up on top of you before you even know they are there, but this is what they like in order to come in, in the day light.
PRACTICE!
You cannot practice shooting enough! Be comfortable shooting your bow. Try to shoot multiple times a week. Only a half hour every day or every other day can go a long ways. Knowing the feel of your bow and how it performs and trusting your bow is crucial when that trophy steps in front of you. Practice sitting in a chair and shooting. We will give tips and pointers when you get here about shooting out of the stand, but sitting is much quieter and much more effective than trying to stand up and shoot. These animals live by their senses so you might think your standing up quiet but chances are they can hear you. Just sit in a chair, with arm rests to simulate the tree stand rail, set it up at a ninety degree angle to your target, and shoot. Then shoot some more! One of the most important elements to being successful is to be comfortable with your equipment.
